CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s net international reserves increased to a record $57.2145 billion at the close of August 2026. The Central Bank of Egypt announced the preliminary figure on September 7. Reserves were $56.2939 billion at the end of July, indicating a rise of approximately $920.6 million during August, or about 1.6%. This latest figure continues a trend of monthly growth throughout 2026 and pushes Egypt’s official foreign reserves above $57 billion for the first time.

Compared to August 2025, the total reserve level is $7.9638 billion higher than the $49.2507 billion recorded in that month. This marks an annual increase of roughly 16.2%. At the end of December 2025, Egypt’s net international reserves stood at $51.4516 billion. Consequently, reserves have grown by around $5.76 billion, or 11.2%, during the first eight months of 2026. Official monthly data show a consistent rise in reserves every month since January, with gains persisting through August.
The rate of reserve accumulation accelerated in the middle of the year. International reserves reached $53.1342 billion in May, then climbed to $55.0723 billion in June. They further increased to $56.2939 billion in July and hit $57.2145 billion in August. The June increase was roughly $1.94 billion from May. July added approximately $1.22 billion, while August contributed about $920.6 million. Collectively, these three months saw an addition of over $4 billion to Egypt’s international reserve holdings.
Foreign currency inflows remain high
Remittances from Egyptians working abroad also reached a record high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported inflows of about $47.3 billion for that period, representing a 29.6% increase from roughly $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year. In June alone, remittances hit approximately $4.2 billion, which is 15.6% higher than the about $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025, based on official data released in August.
Egypt’s latest available balance of payments figures cover the period from July to March of fiscal year 2025/2026. During those nine months, the overall balance of payments showed a deficit of $1.8 billion. The capital and financial account registered net inflows of $9.9 billion in the same timeframe, while the current account posted a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures provide the most recent official snapshot of Egypt’s external accounts before the August international reserves update.
Reserves reach new monthly highs consecutively
Throughout 2026, the reserve levels have set multiple new nominal records. Reserves were $52.5938 billion in January, rising to $52.7455 billion in February. They then increased to $52.8306 billion in March, $53.0092 billion in April, and $53.1342 billion in May. The total surpassed $55 billion in June, $56 billion in July, and $57 billion in August. The August figure remains provisional, consistent with the notation used for the latest monthly reserve data.
The August reserve total is nearly $8 billion higher than the reserve level one year earlier. Egypt has now recorded three consecutive month-end reserves above $55 billion. July marked the first month surpassing $56 billion, while August saw the first exceeding $57 billion. Compared to December 2025, the reserve stock has grown by more than ten percent. The August data not only establish a new peak for Egypt’s net international reserves but also continue the uninterrupted monthly growth trend observed throughout 2026.
