Apple has launched Reference Image, a voluntary feature aimed at verifying photo authenticity. When in Reference mode, the system captures signed sensor data during photo capture, creating a reference image that can be compared with edited versions in the Photos app. Support for image metadata and the SynthID standard will also be introduced, with SynthID support arriving via a software update later in 2026.
Enhanced camera controls with variable aperture
The A20 Pro chip employs a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, incorporating a six-core CPU and seven-core GPU. It also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with a total of 32 cores dedicated to AI processing. Apple claims the GPU offers up to 40% faster performance than the A19 Pro. A redesigned vapor chamber increases surface area, boosting sustained performance. The devices also include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity through Apple’s N1 wireless chip.
Battery life sees improvements across the iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple states that eSIM-only versions can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback, while the Pro Max model extends this to 45 hours. The iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes when using compatible wired accessories. The removal of the physical SIM tray in eSIM-only models frees up additional battery space, and these versions will be available in several Middle Eastern markets.
Siri AI arrives alongside iOS 27
The new devices come preloaded with iOS 27 and support Siri AI via Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for compatible devices configured in English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is expected in October. The system can utilize personal context from messages, emails, and photos during request processing. It can also respond to on-screen content. Apple Intelligence uses on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for supported cloud-based tasks.
Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, with the Pro Max starting at $1,299. Both models are available with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Colors offered include burgundy, glacier, silver, and black. In the UAE, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at AED 5,099. Preorders open on September 12, with sales starting on September 18. An additional 20 countries and regions are scheduled to receive the new devices on September 25.
